Dr Lim Jit Fong (Colorectal Surgeon) has a strong interest in minimally invasive surgery and has performed hundreds of laparoscopic colorectal operations.
Dr Lim Jit Fong graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1995. He obtained his fellowship in surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, UK, in 1999.
After completing his advanced specialty training in general surgery in 2003, Dr Lim was conferred a Singapore General Hospital (SGH) fellowship to further his training in the management of functional defaecatory disorders and minimally invasive colorectal surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia. Upon returning from Australia in 2005, he worked as a consultant in the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Singapore General Hospital before focusing on private practice in 2011.
Dr Lim Jit Fong is very passionate about improving the quality of care for his patients. He has received numerous awards for excellence in patient care through the years.
Dr Lim has a strong interest in minimally invasive surgery. He is adept at laparoscopic (keyhole) colorectal surgery, including single incision (single keyhole) and robotic-assisted colorectal surgery. He is also a strong proponent of laparoscopic hernia repair. He has performed hundreds of laparoscopic colorectal operations and has lectured/conducted workshops about laparoscopic colorectal surgery at many local and international meetings. Two of Dr Lim’s special interests are endoanal/pelvic ultrasound and management of patients with functional defaecatory problems (such as faecal incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction). As such, Dr Lim has developed a keen interest in the management of complex fistula-in-ano, pilonidal sinus and haemorrhoids.
In 2008, he started the Pelvic Floor Disorder Service at SGH, together with specialists from the Departments of Urology and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. This was the world’s first multi-disciplinary clinical service providing a holistic service to patients suffering from complex functional disorders of the pelvis. He served as the director till 2011. He is currently President of the Society of Colorectal Surgeons, Singapore and Vice-President of the Society for Continence, Singapore.
Dr Lim Jit Fong has authored numerous scientific research articles on various colorectal surgery topics, which have been published in various peer-reviewed medical journals worldwide. He has also held several appointments concurrently in SGH for clinical research and medical education. He has served on the editorial board of international peer-reviewed medical journals in the past and continues to be a reviewer for medical journals. Dr Lim holds concurrent positions as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS as well as Visiting Consultant to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and Sengkang General Hospital.
