>Make it the Last Stick

Cigarette smoking is the main cause of lung cancer, responsible for more than 90% of lung cancer cases (Source). Cigarette smoke contains more than 7,000 chemicals, out of which at least 400 are poisonous to humans (Source) and 70 are linked to cancer (Source).
All these are reasons for you to make it your last stick – without any more procrastination.
With each puff of the cigarette, smokers introduce harmful toxins to their body (Source). Even social smokers, or those who smoke occasionally, are at increased risk for cancer. It is also a myth that exercise can offset the negative effects from smoking, according to Susan Lakoski, M.D., associate professor of cancer prevention at MD Anderson Cancer Center (Source). While it is true that exercise can improve health, it cannot undo the damage caused by smoking.
A smoker can also expose loved ones to second-hand smoke that carries at least 60 cancer-causing chemicals (Source).
Quitting smoking is never easy, but it is a step towards a better life. The good news is you don’t have to do it alone. CIH encourages you to take up the smoking cessation programme by Health Promotion Board (HPB) designed to help individuals surmount their addiction with the help of professionals.
For example, you can embark on the “I Quit 28-Day Countdown”, as staying smoke-free for 28 days makes it five times more likely for you to quit for good (Source).  HPB also provides trained counsellors to guide you during your 28-day journey to stop smoking with personalised quit strategies.
Employers can also sign up with HPB for motivational talks by ex-smokers to equip their employees with practical strategies to cope with stress and quit smoking.
The journey of quitting smoking is tough but it leads to beautiful destinations. Be the change for you and your loved ones, butt out that last cigarette for good. Find out more about the smoking cessation programme today.
